BEINN GHLAS
Our last day with skis on Scotland. Bad weather with no visibility and strong winds.
Start from the A827 direction to Lochan na Lairige, 200 meters above the sea level.
13km 900m +
Third and last day of skiing in Scottish lands. The weather forecast can not be more bad, but the desire to ski is strong after having paused for a day. Therefore, we will try it.
The choice is the area of Ben Lawers, relatively close to Pitlochry where we sleep. One hour by car and with snow on the A827 road, we stop at the point where there is the turnoff to Lochan na Lairige Lake.
From here, at a height of 200 meters above sea level we calcise the skis and begin the route.
We continue over the road during the first kilometers. We take a shortcut field to avoid a long loop (cartel of the national park). We arrived at a parking area with fenced by cattle on both sides. We turn right on the side of the closed and we cross a wooden bridge over the torrent to continue through a wide ridge separated by another closed.
We continue always with the torrent to the left and the closed one to the right until we find a door that we cross. From here, without visibility, we continue the journey from the GPS and a summer track, going back and looking for the best route to avoid the formation of breads under the skis due to the high humidity of the snow.
The wind is blowing with more virulence and the cold feeling is very pronounced. We reach the summit and without losing a moment, we begin the descent with the skis in the back until finding better conditions to ski.
The descent is done by the same itinerary but with a shortcut from the last door that we crossed.
