Itinerary description
Great, low angle tour. Could have used a bit more snow as the beginning still had a lot of rocks showing through. Managed to skin most of it but had to walk a fair bit on the way down.
The tour follows a summer hiking trail through the woods for probably 2/3 of the way. After that it starts to open into snowfields.
I only went to the second refuge as I had a late start, it was windy as all hell and the avalanche danger was quite high. On a good day there are lots of options to ski higher with plenty of options for lines down. If you got an early enough start you could ski laps all day!
The upper part of the trail does start to get some steep walls in either side. Just below the second refuge, the skin track followed the bottom of a gully just below some obvious avalanche paths. I saw signs of two today. Neither of them made it to the gully, but be aware on high risk days. I chose to break trail to a safer ridge line to the climbers left.
Overall, a great, easy trail with the possibility to make it more adventurous at the top.
