Fifth and last stage.
From the Morskie Oko refuge, at 1400 m, the 9 km descent begins on the road with icy snow until you reach the entrance gate to the High Tatras National Park, with a barrier for car control. There we take a bus that takes us for 54 km to Lake Strbské Pleso and from it begins the second part of the stage that ascends through the forest to the Popradksé Pleso refuge. From here it goes up, at first through the forest and then through more open terrain, towards the Rysy. In the middle of the tour there is an area where it is necessary to remove the skis and put on the crampons because of the abrupt terrain and the presence of hard ice. Afterwards, the panorama returns to reach the Chata Pod Rysmi refuge, at 2250 m. Then you can access a hill from which you can see a great panorama of the High Tatras peaks. A little further up you have to put the crampons again because of the rapid slope that ends at the summit of the Rysy, at 2499 m, the highest mountain in Poland. Very wide visual basin that of the slender peak that dominates the horizon.
The descent is made where you came to reach the road that goes to the shelter. Continue with skis until you reach the end of the snow where you have to take off your shoes and continue on foot.
A great route with the interruption of the section by bus because the Rysy could not be climbed live, by the corridor of the North face, from Lake Morskie Oko due to the unfavorable conditions of the route with unstable snow. We will have to go back.
In the chapter of thanks it should be noted that the crossing would not have been possible without the logistical efforts of the organizers, Enrique, first, and Oscar and Juanvi who took care of the coordination tasks and all those who collaborated with the essential spirit to that such a large group obtained daily successes. The good atmosphere prevailed over the disagreements and that is a credit that accumulates in the CIM so that twenty, or more years of its beginning as a mountain club are fulfilled. Special mention for the Magdalena guide, a cluster of mountain virtues and whose discretion, know-how and elegance we will always remember.
It is said, thank you very much.
