REMEMBER THAT ONLY WE KNOW OUR LIMIT. SAFETY MUST PRICE FIRST OF ALL

NOTE OF INTEREST:
One of the classic peaks for ski mountaineering in the High Tatras area of Slovakia. A circular journey that brings together a little of everything, ascent through a beautiful, hard forest, a good view from the top, a descent through its W corridor with a little atmosphere, etc.
PICO PATRIA 04APR18
We leave from Velki Slavkov, Tatry Holiday Resort, after having breakfast, buffet style €5, towards the Strbské Pleso ski resort located at 1,360 meters above sea level. When we arrive, the first thing is to look for a place to park the van. As it is the end of the season, there is no need to pay for WP 1 parking. We put on our hiking boots, grab our equipment and head to the WP 2 Starting Point, which is none other than The beginning of the summer trail that ascends into the forest is 9:27 a.m. We put on the skis, adjust the equipment and begin to focus, the GPS indicates 1,357 meters, which is also more or less the height indicated on the map. The ascent through the forest at first appears comfortable and the path is marked on the trees with a red square with a horizontal stripe, just above it, of the same color. At 10am and 8'we reach a crossroads where there is a barrier, closed, and some signs indicating WP 3. We head in the direction of the barrier, and once we cross it the comfort of the climb is over. At 10:12 we pass next to a large fallen trunk marked with the WP 4 trail marking. The slope gains degrees and the zigzags between the trees are continuous. At 10:46 we reach a small, very small, clearing in the forest where we stop to take off our clothes, it is quite hot. After a fairly steep section we reach a group of WP 5 rocks with a tongue of snow through which we ascend on a ladder due to its inclination and the limited space we have to maneuver, it is 10 hours and 52'. As we leave the ramp we see in front of us another group of rocks marked with a WP 6 milestone and also the enormous blade of ascent towards the Patria, it is 11 hours and 11', but we have already left the dense forest, which is the most important thing. Now we ascend, avoiding the low scrub and some small pine trees. We make a small stop at WP N 7 before facing the ascent up the shovel to drink and have a bite to eat. We also put on the gore because the temperature has dropped somewhat and the wind has made an appearance. We resumed our march immediately. The slope, now depopulated by vegetation, allows large and comfortable diagonals to be drawn. As we reach the top, the blade narrows, just like our zig-zags. We reached the top of Pico Patria WP 8 at 12 hours and 30 minutes. We take photos from the top, a strong wind is blowing. We do not waste time, we take our skis in hand and descend to the WP 9 pass that separates Pico Patria from Pico Mala Basta. As the area is not comfortable and there is a lot of air blowing, we go down about ten meters in a NW direction where it is easier to We can put on our skis to start the descent down the corridor. W is 12 hours and 52'. The corridor has an inclination between 30º and 45º depending on the section, the snow is very transformed, a warm spring-soup type that when it moves presents the layer of ice that it keeps under it but... it is still allowed to work, although without commit nonsense With the occasional fall we reach the bottom of the Mynický Potok WP 10 valley, from this point the trail is marked to the Strbské Pleso ski resort. But before reaching it we must descend along a fairly busy itinerary with a section through the forest where we find a real bodsleigh track where after each bend we do not find people, dogs, children... etc. so we descend with great caution to avoid take anyone ahead of us. We get as far as the snow allows us, next to a large wooden building and the end of the gravel track that goes up from the WP 11 station, it is 1:38 p.m. We take off our skis and carry them on our shoulders to the parking lot where our WP 12 van is where we arrive at 1:48 p.m., finishing our activity for today.
The difficult rating was given due to the descent through the W corridor.
