Itinerary description
SUMMARY
We were here 05 march 2019
For this trip you will need basic tourski or snowshoe skills. The path is not well marked in winter so you must be able to find your own way up. The way down is over a moderate, open slope with one steeper section. Average skiing skills should suffice. The panoramic view at the end is really beautiful, but we downrated this trip due to poor snow quality. In case of good snow conditions this tour would probably go up a full star. If you are visiting Mt Rainier National park anyway and are looking for a moderate skitour with beautiful views, we recommend this one.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION

First a moderate ascent up to a steep slope with icy ground. The steep slope is the hardest part of the trail, but doesn't last long. On top of the slope a small building indicates panorama point. It is possible to go even higher from here in the direction of Mount Rainier. The path is not indicated while there is still snow and as consequence we might have strayed from the actual route. Skiing down was ski slope style for the first part and a bit harder work beneath the tree line due to slushy snow. In summer this trail could be a fun little hike.

Really nice surroundings with a constant view on Mount Rainier. The first part takes you through an open forest. After you get higher up the view of the valley behind you is why to do this trip in the first place. On clear days you can see as far as Mt St Helens and Mt Adams making it a real panoramic sight.
