Itinerary description

You need to leave fairly early to do this one.
Head towards Estany Blau. When we reached the ridgeline overlooking the lake, we packed our skis and walked the ridge towards Peak de Ralb before making our descent into France.

There are plenty of choices for the descent, and arguably you could simply descend from the ridge overlooking Estany Blua.

You ski down to a passage that leads up to the bowl behind Peak de Rialb. This is a South facing slope that receives full sun, so try to get there quickly. It's was fairly soft by the time we did it and it's around a 40 degree inclination.

The refuge is hidden away behind a small hill directly behind the peak. It's easy to find with this trail, but it can be quite difficult because it's a fairly extensive region. You'll know you're in the area if you see a 3 meter pole sticking out of the ground. The hut is directly south from there. If you get to the wall past Peak do Rialb heading towards font blanca, you've gone around 1.5km too far up the valley.

There is an excellent cabin in Llassies to stay in. It's quite luxurious and so if you have the time, go for two days and explore the surrounds.

It's possible that you can leave via Estany Roig heading past Font Blanca on the French side, however, be aware that there are some big cliffs with long drops. You'll need axes, ropes, crampons, and good winter climbing experience. A better option is to reach Lassier from Arcalis (you'll find another route that I took to do that), however, you face a 300m climb in deep snow. Don't do it alone, and take crampons, axes, and ropes. Remember there is no mobile signal once you're in France and no signal at the refuge. If you get in trouble, you need to be able to get out to get help.
