Itinerary description
31.03.2018
We go with the vans to Mestia's airport. From here, we go up on a not-asphalted trail, untill it is possible for the road snow conditions. We leave one van in the middle of the road and start climbing with skis in our backbag. After 100m of ascent, the snow is more or less continuous and we wear skis with skins. We follow a trail, crossing the river a couple of times, and we reach the Cross and the viewpoint at 2200m. From here the woods area is finished and we find a lot of snow. We visit a small hut with his owner (our driver) and we keep going up. The slope is smooth and the views very nice. The day is less cloudy than the rest of the days and we can almost see Ushba peak. We are going in the direction of Ushba glacier. When we reach the upper point before Koruldi lakes (that are completely covered by the snow) we take out the skins and start the descent. It is quite easy to go down, even if the snow is not very good. In the woods, we follow the trail to avoid complications. We arrive almost to the van skiing and we walk just the last meters with skis in teh backbag. A nice rout with a lot of posibilities.
