Itinerary description
Mount Korab is located in the border between Macedonia and Albania. It is the highest mountain for both countries and It can be climbed from both countries as well.
On this track is our attempt to reach the summit from the Macedonian side. Unfortunately the heavy fog allow us only to reach the long ridge that takes you to the summit.
The most popular way from Macedonian side starts in Mavrovo national park. You have first to talk first with a border police control and explain them your intention. Later, you must drive longer to the next police control where you can park the car. The road is not so good for a normal car.
From the second police control just straight up through a forestry road and as soon as the forest is finished you will rearch to a shepards´ hut. From here the slopes are steeper and steeper. There are many hill, ups and downs and also clifts. So it not so good terrain to get lost one day in the fog.
We needed to use the piolet at the last part to reach the ridge.
Skiing down, we enjoyed the slopes and we decided to go deep into the valley to see if it was possible to get into the shepards' hut through the canyon. We were lucky this time.
