Itinerary description
On the 1st of March 2008 a group of us, five in all, skied from the cabin at Jökulheimar, across the Tungnaárjökull glacier to the foot of the easternmost of the two "kerlingar" ("old hags"). Once there we tied on our crampons and made our way to the summit. This was a long trip (ca. 35 km round trip) to make at this time of year - we had to ski by the light of our headlamps for the last hour or so - always a bit exciting! We were extremely glad to get back to the hut! I'll post pictures when I get around to it ...
