This is the first of the four crossing routes prepared by Nevadensis Mountain Guides, with the support of the guide Alexander Serafimov (Mountain Guides of Bulgaria), to know the Southern Carpathians also known as Transylvanian Alps.

We arrived in Bucharest on April 1, 2018 and after resting a few hours in a hotel near the airport, we headed to SINAIA, interesting city of the Bucegi massif, developed around the Monastery built by Mihail Cantacuzino on his return from a pilgrimage on Mount Sinai. After five years of work the monastery began to function in 1695 with only 12 monks. At present the religious group is presided over by the Great Church that dates from 1843.

Another unique building is the Peles Castle, one of the most important in nineteenth century Europe, built between 1873 and 1914 by Charles I, first king of Romania. The direction of the work corresponded to the architect Karel Liman. It was the first building illuminated with electric light, for which a hydroelectric power station of its own had to be built. It had been heating since 1888. The Castle was the summer residence of the court, which could thus enjoy a much more pleasant temperature than the 38th that Bucharest can reach in summer. The presence of the monarch in SINAIA attracted the Romanian bourgeoisie which explains the large number of existing palaces.

Arrived in SINAIA we go directly to the ski resort by a zigzag road that crosses an imposing forest of tall beech and fir trees, until reaching the 1400 level. There we take the new cable car that climbs the Furnica Peak (Varful Furnica) to 2103 meters We go down the blue track Laptici 1, which today is an authentic ice sheet, until the vicinity of the Valea Durului Cabin, where we put seals and we separate from the ski slopes.

First we ascend the Varful Vanturis (1925) and then the Varful Cu Dor (2030) from where we have an impressive view over the Bucegi massif and the Muntenia region. We begin the descent with a fantastic snow for incredible places without anyone around us, with the firs wisely arranged by nature to achieve a postcard landscape.

We reach the Dorului River and we recover the level following the riverbed. I loved that route, all in a row, in full harmony with the environment: The image that every skier has in his mind. Fantastic.

We return to Calea Valea Soarelui, ascend by track 3b (Valea Dorolui variant) and then Valea Dorolui until the junction with the red track Drumul de Vara, where we descend with snow spring type Sierra Nevada. I liked that descent because it is very varied, with some narrow passage. We return to level 1400 where our bus awaits us and Villa Camelia, a beautiful hotel in Sinaia. Palace built in 1884 by one of the architects who collaborated with Karel Liman in the construction of the Peles Castle. Villa Camelia is decorated with wood in the purest Saxon style of the time. It is located just 10 minutes from the Monastery.

I finish with my sincere thanks to Jesus Espinosa (Nevadensis) and Alexander Serafimov for a 5 * work, where they have been able to unite sport and culture.

Clarification:
Since we made the climb taking advantage of the gondola lift, we must subtract 700 meters of unevenness and about 4 kms of travel, so the reality of the journey made in half a day, was

13.04 kms
763 meters of vertical drop
