Itinerary description
A short but lovely loop from the Frey Refuge, across Lake Toncek and up past Lake Schmoll. We bootpacked to the pass - 'canchita de fútbol' (football field). The views from there are spectacular, from the top of the Cerro Catedral resort, past the lake and Cerro Lopez, all the way round to Cerro Tronador. There is an easy route round the back to the top of a moderate snow canal, which makes for a fun descent. We then added on one the of the several other couloirs nearby, all of which are obvious.
