Itinerary description
New ski touring outing, still in the St-Bernard region, with the climb to the legendary Mont-Fourchon, with, as usual, a departure from the parking lot of Bourg St-Bernard. Hike long enough, positive elevation well distributed over the length, count between 4h and 4 h 30 (or (much) less for the more sporty), to arrive at the top of Fourchon. There is no particular difficulty, just be attentive to the danger of avalanches of the day which is often marked in two particular places: 1. after the hospice to the Italian customs (personally, I crossed the frozen and snowy lake on the return) 2. At km 6.2 (go through the tunnel if there are opportunities to enter and exit) as avalanches descend daily in the area. That day, there were breaks everywhere... If it starts to get hot, it is a slope to the south, very steep, flee these two sectors! The ideal is to pass these two sectors before noon! Back to the parking lot by the same route I climbed, descent contrasted, because the snow was powdery, but there was the white day.
