Friday 29.03.2019 - Warm up day: Finse - Attempt to Hardangerjøkulen
At the Finse station the day before, direct ski departure to the Finsehytta refuge (DNT - about half a kilometer). The arrival at Finse is shocking: as if you were kicked in the ass and warm so far on the train, suddenly you are on the platform, hit by the snow and wind. We loaded the backpacks, we mounted on the skis and half blinded by the bad weather, in the middle of the night we went towards Finsehytta. Check-in, dinner around eleven o'clock at night we are lying down. Outside a terrible wind blows; tomorrow you will see ...
The next day effectively, the wind remains the same; Even, it seems to blow even stronger. The meteorological part is devastating: winds of 18-19 m / sec (about 65 km / h), with weak to moderate rainfall all day. Our project today is to try to climb the Hardangerjøkulen (1,863 m), the sixth largest glacier in continental Norway and the highest point in the province of Hordaland. The ascent from Finse follows a southwest direction, although we will have the wind in the face during the whole climb. We had breakfast and at 9:45 we left the shelter, without great expectations. It is not cold, we touch positive temperatures, but the sensation of cold is intense. The progression is slow and complicated. One by one we go around and at 11:15 finally, Francesc and I decided to abort the climb: strong gusts, air charged with sleet, and soon the real climb will begin ... With these conditions and these skis, the descent if we continue would be delicate. We have not done half of the route, it's a good decision. At 12:30 we are all back in Finsehytta where we will spend the rest of the day enjoying your comfort; the look towards the window, with the same question as last night: tomorrow, we'll see ...

(Very attentive: from the train Asker ask if arriving at 20h we can still have dinner - answer the minute via mail: "Then you will get dinner at 21:00", with smiley face).
