20190309 Romsdal Kirketaket or Kyrkjetaket (1,440 m)
We left at 9:00 from the Kavli car park, ten minutes from home and about 180 meters above sea level. Yesterday, about 20 cm of new snow fell and today dawns without clouds, when we arrived there are already some cars and different groups. We go to the Kirketaket or Kyrkjetaket (1,440 m) which means the roof of the church and which has a south spade of 1,000 meters to ski ... the target, or one of the largest of the trip.
Start by tracks and then leave to go to a forest on the left, the return we will make it here by a track where cross-country skiing and reaching a milk farm in Kavlisetra, just below the south of our peak and where the plane ends
We precede a large group with a guide who stay in the woods to practice some lesson. By the way, the guide was Halvor Hagen, who wrote the book Ski touring in Romsdalen, highly recommended: with the orientations, different possibilities, slopes, difficulties, risk areas ... We continue to our objective leaving the north orientation and getting into the east by a steeper area. We only have one boy ahead who opens a track that is to be appreciated, on snow sugar that does not stick to skis (the magic powder). Soon another boy and girl pass us before arriving at Steinberget (980 m). The views over our house, the fjord and the surrounding mountains such as the Juratind, Store Venjetind, the wall of the Troll, Romsdalhorn, Klauva ...
It's 11:15 and we stop to grab something, drink, give ourselves cream ... Come on, giving the sun time to work the snow ... Crass error !!
We go down about 30 meters with the skins on and we are ready to attack the remaining 500 meters of the shovel on the left, following the trail that the first ones open so generously.
At 12:25 fluffy and enjoying the views we stand on the top of the Kirketaket (1,440 m), lean top and ravine to the north. We stayed to re-group take a couple of photos and enjoy the ski.
The shovel at the beginning will have about 40º and then it remains a few meters above 30º, very wide, it promises! There is one thing that we are disappointed, the first ones have gone down half an hour ago and slowly went down making awkward turns ... and the following too ... weird weird hummmm.
13:05 We have to go down, up a lot of slope but the snow is somewhat snagged, hard to advance ... to a few meters I stop to record video, still without removing the selfie camera ... Upsss, the blind recording is what that has you recording yourself for a few seconds and putting weird faces ... 😅
We fall and it is hard for us to turn, in good sections but from the middle to the bottom the snow is already too wet by the sun and it is deep and heavy. When you stand you hit the skis, the scary clogs, and do not slide or downhill ... Aynomaaaa !! We have a hard time getting to the Klavisetra farms, where there is already a cross-country ski trail downhill, although we have to row something at the beginning, and take the skating step until we reach the slope and reach the car park, which is now very close. !! These Norwegians are not too early to go to the mountain ...
It's 14:10 ... Three and a half hours to go up and down in an hour, despite the conditions. Satisfaced !!
At 2:30 in the house. Tita! Beautiful scenery and nice climb, heavy snow penalty, but still, very enjoy.
15.5 km and 1,320 meters up (and down), in about 5 hours.
