1st stage of the Dovrefjell national park trek, Norway (5 days)

Dovrefjell is a mountain range in central Norway that forms a natural barrier between Eastern Norway and Trøndelag, the area around Trondheim.
The main south-north highway (E6) and railway Dovrebanen in Norway runs over Dovrefjell. The highway is a year-round highway but is at rare occasions closed for short periods during heavy winter weather conditions. However, for hikers wishing to travel from Oslo to Dovrefjell the fastest way and without any doubt the most convenient way is to use the direct train between Oslo and the Kongsvoll station, close to Kongsvold Fjellstue. Kongsvold has official status as a mountain retreat since 1670.

The route of the Dovrefjell national park trek - Norway was built with a dual purpose: to Discovery the fauna and flora (in summer) of the beautiful natural area of Dovrejfell, and to approach Snøhetta (2,286 m): the highest mountain in the Dovrefjell range and the third highest in Norway, inside Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park.

The 1st stage of the trek we will go from the Kongsvoll train station (or the charming accommodation, Kongsvold Fjellstue, 892 m) to the refuge of Reinheim 1,346 metres above the sea level. Due to inclement weather, the ascent of Snøhetta scheduled on the second day was not possible, an attempt which was interrupted at midway of the mountain, however we had the chance to get closer to one of the most emblematic animals of the national park: the musk ox of Dovrefjell (see photos).
