Esta es una de las rutas hacia el camino del Faro de Albir. Es camino que se abre paso entre los recursos naturales del Parque Natural de la Sierra Helada y se puede acceder o desde el pueblo del Albir o por el mar. Encontraremos pequeños enclaves con personalidad y belleza singular como la Cova del Bou la Cala de Metge, una cala recogedora para aquellos que buscan huir de las playas populares y en muchos casos masificadas de Albir o el majestuoso faro situado al final de la ruta. Pero el mayor atractivo de este itinerario es sin lugar a dudas las vistas sobrecogedoras que ofrece de toda la bahía de Altea: un enorme espacio ocupado por el mar donde enormes barcos pesqueros que buscan su camino de vuelta al puerto de Altea seguidos por una estela de gaviotas hambrientas rodean al Peñón de Ifach que se vislumbra en el fondo, todo ello envuelto por un manto de cadenas montañosas que le añaden todavía más valor paisajístico si cabe.
Además es un camino asfaltado y accesible para sillas de ruedas y por tanto también para bicicletas, carritos de niños y por supuesto para aquellos senderistas que quieran ir a pie.
La proximidad al pueblo turístico de Albir genera para los usuarios de esta ruta una oferta complementaria excelente, pues en el pueblo pueden encontrar prácticamente todo lo que necesiten: restaurantes, hoteles, bares, gasolineras, supermercados… etc.
This one is one of the routes towards the Albir's lighthouse. This route goes through the natural resources of the Nature reserve of Sierra Helada and it is possible to accede or from the Albir town or from the sea. We will find small enclaves with personality and singular beauty as the Cova del Bou, the Metge's cove, a small cove for those who seek to flee of the popular and usually crowded Albir´s beaches or the magnificent lighthouse placed at the end of the route. But the major attraction of this itinerary is with no doubt the impressive sights that it offers of the whole bay of Altea: by the sea surrounding the Peñón d´Ifach and enormous fishing ships are coming back to the Altea´s harbor, followed by a stela of hungry gulls wrapped all this for lots of mountainous chains that add even more value to the landscape if it fits.
In addition it is a way asphalted surface and accessibly for wheelchairs, bicycles, children's trolleys and certainly for those senderistas that want to go on foot.
The proximity to the tourist village of Albir generates for the users of this route an excellent complementary offer, because they can find everything what they need: restaurants, hotels, bars, gas stations, supermarkets … etc.

Faro de l´Albir - Albir lighthouse
Este es el faro costero del Albir, donde también se encuentran los restos de una antigua torre vigía del siglo XVII. La ruta de 3 km acaba en la verja del faro de Albir. Desde la verja quedan 200 escasos metros hasta el faro y si la cruzamos debemos hacerlo con respeto y vigilando siempre a los niños ya que es zona de acantilados verticales. Toda la ruta hasta le verja es segura, ya que han habilitado barandillas, miradores con protección, etc. salvo este último tramo al faro que debemos tener en cuenta si vamos con niños pequeños. El faro está rodeado por bancos y papeleras en una zona de amplias vistas: vemos los grandes acantilados de la sierra Gelada, que llegan a ser de 300 m. de desnivel. Las olas del mar chocan contra las rocas creando un paisaje imponente, y merecedor de unos minutos de relajación para contemplarlo y descansar, para así luego retomar con fuerzas el camino de vuelta. El regreso lo hacemos por el mismo lugar hasta el parking, en total unos 5 km (ida y vuelta ) en un tiempo aproximado de 1 h 45' 2 h. This is the Albir lighthouse, where we can find also the remains of an ancient tower of the XVII century. Our itinerary finishes at the railings of the lighthouse. From the railings there are only 200 meters until the lighthouse but if we go we should do it careful and keeping an eye on the children, because is a vertical cliffs area. The whole route is safe because it has been fitted out with rails, protections… etc. but this last spot is dangerous if we go with small kids. The lighthouse is surrounded by benches and bins in an area with beautiful sights: we can see the huge cliffs of Sierra Gelada, some of them of 300 meters high. The waves of the sea crash with the rocks creating an awesome landscape. That is well worth visiting to stay there for a while and relax. We will come back through the same path until the car park, 5 km the whole route in approximately 1 h 45' 2 h.

Vistas a los acantilados y calas - Coves and cliffs sights.
En esta etapa de la ruta en que ya hemos pasado el tunel y por tanto dejado atrás la primera parte del itinerario encontramos numerosos enclaves que nos ofrecen vistas espectaculares de las calas, acantilados y barrancos que nos ofrece este parque natural. In this stage in which we have already gone out of the tunnel so we are in the second part of the itinerary we will find lots of places with amazing sights if the holds, cliffs and gullys offered by this Natural Park.

Primera vista al Faro - First sight of the lighthouse.
Desde este punto, una vez que hemos salido del túnel, podemos ver por primera vez el faro del Albir, el objetivo que estábamos persiguiendo desde el primer momento. Todavía no está cerca, pero ya podemos divisarlo al final del camino y en lo alto de una colina. From this spot, once we went out from the tunnel, we can see for the first time the Albir lighthouse, the purpose we have been following from the very first moment. It is still far away, but we can already see it at the end of the path, in the top of a hill.

El tunel del camino del Faro
Tras el segundo mirador el camino atraviesa un túnel excavado en la roca tras el cual accedemos a un sector agreste donde vemos ya claro al fondo el Faro de Albir. Desde el tunel el camino amplio hace unas revueltas para salvar un barranco con bellas vistas de la Cala del Metge, la Cova del Bou y la antigua Mina. After the second viewpoint the rout goes through a tunnel dug in the rock and after that we will be able to see the Lighthouse for first time clearly. From this tunnel the path goes next to a beautiful gully with lovely sights of the Cala del Metge, Cova del Bou y la Antigua Mina.

2º Mirador - 2º Viewpoint
Este segundo mirador es un poco más pequeño que el anterior y se accede a él por medio de una escalinata hecha con troncos de madera y una barandilla del mismo material. Desde aquí vemos de nuevo la bahía de Altea, adornada por varios barcos pesqueros que en ese momento navegan hacia el puerto de Altea seguidos por una estela de gaviotas hambrientas. This second viewpoint is slightly smaller than the first one and you can get there through some steps made of wood logs and a rail from the same material. From this point we can see again the Altea´s bay with several fishing boats that in this moment are sailing to the Altea´s Harbour followed by the hungry seagulls.

Mirador - Viewpoint
Este primer mirador tiene forma circular y desde aquí podemos disfrutar de las preciosas vistas de toda la bahía de Altea, apreciándose al fondo el Peñón de Ifach, todo esto rodeado por las espectaculares montañas que envuelven este rincón de la Marina Baixa: el Puig Campana y la Sierra de Bernia. This first viewpoint is round and from there we can enjoy beautiful sights of the whole Altea bay, noticing at the end el pennon de Ifach, all of that surrounded by the amazing Mountains that wrap this lovely spot: the Puig Campana Mountain and The Bernia range.

Bajada hacia la cala de Metge - Path to the Cala del Metge
Si tomamos este camino que se nos ofrece a la derecha nos desviaremos un poco de la ruta establecida pero a cambio llegaremos a la conocida “Cala del Metge”, una pequeña cala que nos ofrecerá vistas panorámicas preciosas de la bahía del Albir, Altea y Calpe y donde quizá podamos encontrar la intimidad necesaria para practicar nudismo. En todo caso no es necesario llegar aquí ya que más adelante en nuestra ruta llegaremos a puntos desde los que se podrá ver esta bonita cala. If we take this path that we will see on the left we will get diverted from the route but in exchange we will see the “cala del Metge”, a small hold where we can enjoy gorgeous views of the bay of Albir, Altea and Calpe and where we may find the privacy needed to practice nudism. Anyway is not necessary to arrive there because during our route we will have beautiful sights from which we will see this “cala del Metge”

Área recreativa con mesas para hacer picnic -Picnic area
Nada más empezar la ruta podemos encontrar a nuestra izquierda una zona recreativa con mesas donde podremos parar a comer, descansar, charlar, jugar a las cartas o simplemente disfrutar del paraje natural que nos rodea. Cabe tener en cuenta que no se puede hacer fuego y que hay papeleras donde deberemos tirar los desperdicios o basura. As soon as we start walking we will see on the left a picnic area with tables where we can eat, chat, rest, play cards or simply enjoy the natural scenery we are surrounded by. We must notice that we cannot light a bonfire and there is paper bins where we should throw all our rubbish and scraps.

Entrada al Parque Natural Sierra Helada - Entrance to the natural Park Sierra Helada
Aquí se situa la entrada al Parc Natural de La Serra Gelada, espacio protegido en el que se desarrolla la ruta que vamos a realizar, aunque no es la única que los turistas siguen en este parque: también están la ruta roja y amarilla de mayor dificultad. Aunque los usuarios de un espacio protegido como La Serra Gelada, con toda probabilidad conocen bien las normas de seguridad a seguir cuando se visita un área natural, permítanos recordarle las siguientes recomendaciones: • Dentro del Parque Natural no hay fuentes de agua potable. Lleve suficiente bebida y alimentos. • El acceso y tránsito a pie por la mayor parte del parque es libre, siempre sin abandonar los caminos o sendas, y respetando la normativa vigente • Incluso en algunos días de invierno, es necesario usar gorra y protección solar. • Lleve calzado adecuado de montaña. • Aunque es una sierra litoral, no subestime la dificultad de La Serra Gelada. Valore, antes de ponerse en ruta, su desnivel, pendiente y orografía. • Si lleva a su perro, debe éste ir siempre sujeto. • Respete en todo momento la flora y fauna del lugar. • Extremar la precaución en caso de lluvias por peligro de desprendimientos. Por motivos de seguridad y en caso de alertas meteorológicas, el Parque puede cerrar temporalmente el tránsito por las rutas oficiales. Although this is not the only route that takes place inside this Natural park: there are another routes, red and yellow, more difficult that the one we are following. Although visitors to a protected area like the Sierra Gelada are probably well aware of the safety requirements that should be followed when visiting nature areas, please allow us give you the following recommendations: • There are no drinking fountains in the Nature Park. Please ensure that you bring sufficient water and food. • Access and journey through the park is free and is made on foot. It is always recommended that you do not stray from the roads or paths and that you comply with the legislation. • During the winter months it may be necessary to bring a woollen hat and sun screen. • Wear special footwear for hiking. • Although it is a coastal range, do not underestimate the challenges of the Sierra Gelada Mountain. • Before embarking on a route calculate the unevenness, slope or gradient and geography or orography of the area. • If you take a dog with you it must be kept on a leash. • Please respect the flora and fauna in the area at all times. • Be extremely careful if it is raining in case of landslides. For security reasons and in the case of any extreme weather alerts, the park may close temporarily the routes through the area. Minas de ocre - Ocher mine, cala “La Mina” y La “Boca de la Balena”
Cuando proseguimos hacia el faro después del segundo mirador y tras recorrer 300 metros, encontramos el sendero que desciende suavemente a las minas de origen Fenicio y posterior explotación romana, de donde se extraía el ocre que era utilizado como colorante hasta bien entrado el siglo, cuando cayó en desuso por la utilización de nuevas sustancias para esta actividad. Un poco más adelante del sendero que desciende a estas minas, llegamos a una curva del camino desde donde a mano derecha y arriba se puede contemplar en la umbría de la montaña una gran oquedad natural conocida con el nombre de “Boca de la Balena” o de “Cova de Bou”. 300 meters after the second viewpoint, we will find the path that will brin us to a phenician´s mines that afterwards were used by the Romans, from where they extracted the ocher used as coloring until the century, because of it was replaced by new and better substances for the same purpose. If we move forward from the path that arrives to those mines, we will find a curve in the route from where we can see on our left in the shady part of the mountain a big natural hole known as “Boca de la Balena” or “Cova de Bou”.

Comienzo del camino al Faro- Acceso con coche - Beginning of the lighthouse route- car access
Para llegar al inicio tenemos varias posibilidades de transporte, podemos llegar por la N-332 y coger el desvío a la playa del Albir una vez pasado Benidorm, y otra la más interesante, podemos recurrir al ferrocarril de FGV apeándonos en la estación del Albir. Los horarios de partida y de llegada se pueden ver en su página Web: http://www.fgv.es/page.php .Una vez situados en la playa del Albir hay carteles que nos indican la dirección que debemos tomar entre chalets para llegar por el Cami Vell del Far hasta un amplio aparcamiento de tierra donde dejar el coche, a las puertas del inicio de la ruta verde al Faro ( señalizado y con carteles). To get to the beginning of this route we have several possibilities, we can arrive through the N-332 and take the road to the Albir beach once we have been in Benidorm and the other one is the FGV train which timetables are shown in the web site: http://www.fgv.es/page.php .Once we are in the Albir beach there are signs showing the direction we have to follow to take the Cami vell del Far until a huge car park where we can leave the car, in the spot where the lighthouse route starts.

Playa de Albir - Albir beach
La playa del Albir ganó la bandera azul europea por la alta calidad de sus servicios. Con sus aguas limpias y claras ofrece la mejor zona de baño del mediterráneo, con una temperatura media de 25 grados y 300 días soleados al año. En el paseo de las Estrellas podemos encontrar multitud de bares, cafeterías y restaurantes, así que la mejor manera de finalizar la ruta puede ser comiendo y bebiendo mientras la playa de guijarros te relaja con sus vistas magnificas de Altea y Calpe. Esta playa es tranquila y limpia y tienen zonas especiales de juegos para niños. Si es verano, es muy recomendable parar aquí cuando vuelves de la ruta del faro para dormir una siesta tumbado en la arena o tomar un baño en el mar después de haber comido algo en los restaurantes de la zona. The beach of Albir won the European Blue Flag for its very high standards. With clean and clear water offering some of the best bathing anywhere on the Mediteranean, it has an average temperature of 25C and around 300 sunny days a year. The stars promenade (Paseo de las Estrellasis) plays host to plenty of good bars, restaurants and hotels, so it can be the perfect way to end the trip, eat and drink whilst relaxing by the pebble beach with its magnificent views looking over the bay to Altea and Calpe. Those beaches are quiet and clean and have special zones for the kids to play so if it´s summer is highly recommendable to stop here when you are coming back from the lighthouse´s route and take a nap lying on the sand or have a bath on the sea after eating something in some restaurant.
